What you are looking at
This is a hip roof, which means every side slopes down to an eave and there are no flat gable walls at the ends. On this house the shape repeats several times: the main roof, a wing to each side, the projecting front porch and a rear wing that faces the patio. From straight above, the hips run in from the corners and meet near the middle like the spokes of a pinwheel, and each one is finished with a light gray metal hip cap.
The panels are standing seam metal in a light gray that reads close to white under the overcast sky in these photos. Standing seam means each panel has a raised seam along its edge where it locks to the next one, so the roof shows clean straight lines running down every slope. Up close, faint stiffening ribs in the flat of each panel catch the light.
Before any metal went on, the old asphalt shingles were torn off. Photos Brehm took during the install show the deck covered in a gray underlayment printed with the words high temp. That type of underlayment is commonly used under metal roofing because it holds up to the heat that builds under the panels in a Florida summer.
The close drone frames show what comes through the roof. A round black vent sits near the center where the hips meet, small light gray box vents sit on several of the slopes, and each plumbing vent pipe comes up through a new pipe boot with a round flange around it. Along the eaves, a light trim edge finishes the bottom of every panel run.
The house is a single story ranch with tan siding, a brick base and dark shutters, beside a long paved drive among big oaks hung with Spanish moss. Out back there is a paver patio, a fenced pool and a covered pavilion with dark panels on its roof. The drone photos were taken in mid May on a gray, overcast day.
A light colored metal roof reflects more sunlight than the dark gray shingles it replaced, which is worth having on a house that sits in open Florida sun for much of the year.
