Shingle Roof Replacement in Alachua, FL, October 2025
A one-story ranch on a shaded, wooded lot in Alachua, with tan panel siding and a fenced back yard. In early October 2025 the old roof came off, new plywood went down in sections, and Owens Corning Duration shingles went on in a multi-tone brown blend.

What you are looking at
The drone frame looks across the front slope toward the back yard. The roof is one long gable over the whole house, and from this height the shingles read as a warm brown. Up close the blend breaks into tan, slate gray and muted plum tabs laid in a staggered pattern, and a black ridge vent runs along the peak under capped ridge shingles.
At the back corner the eave line steps out where the wall jogs, and the shingles turn the step with a dark drip edge along the new edge. The walls are tan vertical panel siding with dark window frames, and the window glass was still covered in plastic sheeting when the drone photos were taken. The blue-gray house next door sits close to this end of the roof.
Photos Brehm took during the tear-off show the old decking pulled up in sections down to the rafters, then new plywood sheets laid in and numbered in spray paint. White synthetic underlayment went over the new deck, and black metal drip edge was nailed along the eaves. The bundles stacked on the roof were Owens Corning Duration, and the printed nailing strip on each shingle carries the Owens Corning name.
Seen from the end of the house, the ridge vent runs most of the length of the peak, and plain ridge cap shingles finish the last stretch toward the gable. A ridge vent is a low vent along the top of the roof that lets warm attic air out, which helps limit heat build-up through a Florida summer. The back slope holds the rest of the roof hardware: two plumbing vent pipes with black boots, a black hooded exhaust vent and the electrical service mast near the gable end.
Photos Brehm took on the old roof in July show dark shingles strewn with pine straw and leaves, with ferns and moss growing along the ridge. On a lot this shaded, needles and leaves collect on a roof and hold moisture against it, so keeping the new shingles clear is worth the effort.
Tall pines and leafy hardwoods shade the property, and a chain-link fence wraps a back yard of bare ground and low green cover. The small shed in the back corner still has its old, moss-covered roof, and these photos show no work on it.
