In Alachua, storm damage usually arrives on a branch. The canopy that shades Turkey Creek, Main Street and the acreage toward San Felasco drops limbs through decking in summer thunderstorms and packs valleys before a tropical system ever arrives. We tarp from our shop fifteen minutes away, then write the scope your carrier can read.

Alachua's storm damage is a tree story. The city sits against San Felasco Hammock Preserve and the Santa Fe River corridor, and the same oak, hickory and pine canopy that shades Turkey Creek and the acreage lots is what lands on roofs when a summer thunderstorm or a tropical system crosses Alachua County. Idalia in 2023 and Milton in 2024 both pushed tropical storm force gusts through the county. The calls that followed from Alachua were limbs through decking, gutters torn off by falling branches, and valleys packed so full of debris that the next rain backed up under the shingles.
Turkey Creek is the roof we see most. Its 1970s to 1990s shingle roofs lose tabs where thirty years of sun have already taken the seal strip, and they take wind-driven rain at the ridge and at every plumbing penetration on floor plans that have a lot of them. The newer homes off CR 235 and NW 140th Street usually keep their field shingles and lose ridge caps with exposed fasteners instead. On Main Street the steep old roofs ride out wind well but shed everything into complicated valleys and behind chimneys, and the plank decking underneath punctures far more easily than plywood when a limb comes down.
In Alachua the storm visit usually starts with a branch. We get the opening covered, but before anyone pulls the limb we photograph it where it landed, the decking under it, the packed valley above it, and the attic side, all dated in CompanyCam, because that sequence is what your carrier will ask for. Then two scopes: the storm damage, written the way an adjuster reads it, and whatever the roof already needed, with its own number. A puncture on a thirty-year-old Turkey Creek roof is still a puncture, and we keep the two documents separate so the storm portion stays approvable.
Brehm holds Florida certified roofing license CCC1336098 and general contractor license CRC1334991, carries general liability and workers' compensation, and is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor. On an Alachua storm job that means decking, fascia and structural repairs happen on the same permit, and a replacement, if the damage justifies one, qualifies for the manufacturer's extended warranty options and comes with wind-mitigation photos. Addresses inside the city limits permit through the City of Alachua Building Department; acreage and rural addresses outside the limits permit through Alachua County.
After the 2023 and 2024 storms, Alachua was deck patches and valley cleanouts: a limb through plank decking on Main Street, oak litter backing water under shingles in Turkey Creek, a gutter pulled off by a branch on an acreage lot toward San Felasco. Repairs, quoted as repairs. Where a roof was already past its service life we said so with the photos, because the carrier would see it the same way. That is the answer you get here before any claim is filed.
Homes we work on in Alachua: Late 1800s and early 1900s frame homes along Main Street, 1970s to 1990s homes in the Turkey Creek golf community, 1990s to 2010s subdivisions off CR 235 and NW 140th Street, and frame and block homes on wooded acreage toward San Felasco Hammock and the Santa Fe River.

Dated photos of the damage, the limb, the debris and the attic side, in CompanyCam, so the file is ready for your carrier.
What the storm did, and what the roof already needed. An honest claim for the insurer and a real number for the rest.
Deck, underlayment and shingles repaired to code, or a full replacement with wind-mitigation photos and permit closeout if the damage justifies it.

Talk with BrehmStorm repairs that do not go through a claim are priced like any Brehm repair: $825 to $4,950 for most homes in Alachua, depending on whether it is a few resealed shingles or a section of decking and covering. If the damage justifies a replacement, we say so with photos and quote that instead.
Keep everyone out of the room, catch the drip, and call 352-664-8585. We are fifteen minutes away on US 441 and we secure the opening, usually the same day. Leave the limb where it is until we have photographed it in place, because that photo is the start of your insurance file.
Tarping needs no permit. Deck replacement and significant re-roofing do, and in Alachua the office depends on the parcel. Inside the city limits it is the City of Alachua Building Department; the acreage lots toward San Felasco and the Santa Fe River are Alachua County. We confirm from the address and pull it.
Not on its own. Packed valleys are maintenance, and a carrier will treat them that way. What they do cover is the sudden damage that litter contributes to, such as water backing under shingles and into decking during a storm. We clean the valley, document any resulting damage separately, and tell you which limbs to trim.
Usually not the whole roof. The carrier covers the shingles the storm took and the water damage that followed; it does not cover a roof whose seal strip let go years ago. We run a lift test on the field, show you the result, and write the storm damage and the age-related wear as two separate scopes so you know what each will cost before a claim is filed.
Yes. The late 1800s and early 1900s homes along Main Street sit on plank decking that punctures more easily than plywood when a limb comes down. We replace the damaged planks, add underlayment, and re-cover with matching metal or shingle, and we tell you if the change will be visible from the street and needs review.
Yes. Temporary protection is dispatched from our shop on NW 121st Way with 24/7 emergency availability, and Alachua is one of the closest places we serve. A tarp is a stopgap, not the repair. The permanent scope comes after the inspection and is written as a separate document with its own number.
